The operating schedule at a hospital that saw surgery cancelled when it was put on "black alert" because of a lack of beds is due to return to normal.

Patients due to undergo some elective procedures at the Royal Cornwall Hospital had them cancelled at the last minute on Sunday and Monday.

The "black alert" status means services are under "extreme pressure".

Some patients were sent home as a result of the alert, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust said.

It added that it had been a difficult few days and cancelling operations was not something it wanted to do.
