Ebola test negative on Royal Cornwall Hospital patient

Tests on a patient in Cornwall suspected to have Ebola have proved negative, Public Health England has confirmed.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro had admitted the patient on Tuesday after he or she recently returned from West Africa.

The patient was kept in isolation, and samples were sent to Porton Down research centre in Wiltshire.

Public Health England said that the patient would be discharged later.

A Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust spokeswoman said: "We are pleased to report that the precautionary test carried out on a patient for the Ebola virus has given a negative result.

"We would like to thank our staff for their calm and effective response and for the caring and professional way in which they have looked after this individual."
