Arrest over five-hour stand-off in Coventry

A 41-year-old man has been arrested after a stand-off with police in Coventry lasting about five hours.

Police were called to arrest a suspect in Birmingham Road in the Allesley area of the city at 0600 BST on Tuesday.

The suspect was to be recalled from prison following an allegation of assault. A firearm was later recovered from the scene.

A police cordon was put in place but the West Midlands force later thanked residents affected by road closures.
