The Royal Shakespeare Company said it was going to have to take a long, hard look at next year's programme after the Arts Council announced its cuts.

Arts Council England has announced a four-year plan to cut spending, with a 7% first-year reduction for regularly funded organisations.

An RSC spokesman said based on its current Arts Council grant (£15.9m) the 6.9% equates to around £1.1m.

The Stratford-upon-Avon company said it had to work out what the cut will mean.
