'Missing' woman found dead in Warton house fire

The body of a woman has been found inside a house badly damaged by fire in Warwickshire.

Fire crews were called to the semi-detached house in Little Warton Road, Warton, near Polesworth, at 1425 GMT.

Firefighters had been unable to enter the home because of the severity of the blaze and a woman thought to be inside was reported "unaccounted for".

The fire was extinguished at about 1730 GMT and the body of the woman was found in the upstairs of the property.

Two men, aged 56 and 21, were treated for smoke inhalation outside the house.

Up to 25 firefighters were called to the house which Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service said also spread to a neighbouring property.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle remained on scene during the incident providing medical cover for the firefighters tackling the blaze.

"The fire was extinguished at around 5.30pm. However, due to the damage to the property it took several hours before firefighters were able to bring the body of a woman out from the upstairs of the semi-detached property," an Ambulance Service spokesman said.

The woman was confirmed dead at the scene at 2130 GMT.
