Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council staff wages unpaid

About 900 Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council staff have not been paid on time due to an administrative error.

Staff, whose wages amount to around £1m, have been told that they may not receive their money until Wednesday at the latest.

Warwickshire County Council have apologised for what it described as "an individual administrative error."

Public services union Unison said the error would have a "huge impact in terms of finance."

"We're living in a time when people can't afford to not have their salary," Unison representative Sonia Burgher said.

In a statement, Warwickshire County council said: "We apologise to all staff affected and fully understand their concerns, particularly those who are worried about any standing orders or overdraft fees.

"If staff can demonstrate that any charges have been incurred as a result of this error we will reimburse them where appropriate.

"We are taking steps to ensure this never happens again."
