Driver dies when car leaves M40 near Warwick

A driver has died when their car left a motorway and caught fire in the early hours in Warwickshire.

Officers were called to the M40, near junction 15, where it was reported a vehicle had left the road and was on fire in a field.

Firefighters and ambulance crews also attended the incident, which was believed to have involved a Mini One, shortly before 02:00 BST, near Warwick.

The driver was declared dead at the scene. Police appealed for witnesses.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle and the manner in which it was being driven before the collision occurred is asked to contact PC Wayne Knight in the Warwickshire Police major investigation unit," a police spokeswoman said.
