More than 250 schools are closed in Warwickshire and Coventry because of snow and ice.

Warwickshire schools began announcing closures on Sunday afternoon while Coventry schools announced closures on Twitter and the city council's website.

Meanwhile, a lorry has toppled over on the M40 leading to the closure of the southbound carriageway between the M42 junction and junction 15 at Warwick.

The Highways Agency said the accident had led to a fuel spill.

Diversions are currently in place.

Stan Milewski, senior road safety officer for Warwickshire County Council, said gritting teams had been out since the snow fell on Sunday.

However, emergency services warned that many roads and pavements remained icy.

The Met Office predicted a 60% chance of more snowfall in Coventry and parts of Warwickshire on Monday.
