Unsigned musicians from Coventry and Warwickshire are again being given the chance to play at the Godiva Festival.

The annual free event in Coventry's War Memorial Park was cancelled last summer because of muddy conditions, at a cost of about £450,000 to the city council.

Six acts will get the chance to perform at the event on Friday 5 July through the Godiva Unsigned competition.

One of them will play on the main stage the next day. The 2012 winners Dark Actors performed at a substitute event.

Heats will be held at six venues across Coventry, and two semi-finals will then determine which bands play in the Rhythm Tent on the festival's opening night.

The winning act, voted for on the night, will play a second set on the main stage the following afternoon.

Musicians can enter the competition on the festival's website from Tuesday.

The festival lasts for three days.
