Warwickshire's street lights will remain off overnight

Street lights in Warwickshire are to remain turned off overnight after a call for a change in policy was defeated.

The county council's Labour group leader, June Tandy, had put forward a motion to turn the lights back on after raising public safety issues.

A full review of the switch-off will be carried out by the council in October.

The authority said switching the lights off overnight resulted in a saving of £500,000 a year.

The last of the street lights were turned off overnight in April between 00:00 and 05:30 BST by the Conservative-run authority.
