A family escaped serious injury after their car was split in two when it crashed, an ambulance service has said.

A male driver and two children were in the saloon when it left the Fletchamstead Highway, Coventry, at about 11:40 GMT on Saturday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said two crews attended the scene and found all three had got out of the vehicle.

They suffered "a couple of minor scratches" but were otherwise uninjured, a spokesman said.

"Because of the level of damage to the car, all three were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further checks, just as a precaution," he added.
