Teen raped on Riverside Walk in Leamington Spa

A 19-year-old woman was raped after being approached by a man on a riverside walkway in Leamington Spa.

The victim was physically and sexually assaulted on Riverside Walk, close to the River Leam off Newbold Terrace East, police said.

Det Insp Graham Farren said: "This was a very serious and frightening attack by a stranger. We are doing all we can to trace the suspect."

The attack happened between 17:30 and 18:30 GMT on Friday.

The man, who gave his name as "Tom" or "Thomas", was described as white, aged mid to late 20s, over 5ft 3in, of medium build and with dark brown hair.

He had a pale spotty complexion, bushy eyebrows and was clean shaven. He spoke with a local accent and was smoking a cigarette when he approached the woman.

At the time of the attack he was wearing dark blue jeans, a grey top with long sleeves and a black jacket.

Warwickshire Police have urged anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching that description in the area to call police or Crimestoppers.
