A fire that destroyed a community learning centre and caused damage estimated at £100,000 was started deliberately, police believe.

More than 20 firefighters tackled the blaze at the Eburne Neighbourhood Learning Centre, off Deedmore Road in Coventry, which began on Sunday night.

One witness reported seeing people running off down Potters Green Road, potentially into Woodway Lane.

Police said it was a "senseless attack on a community facility".

The fire would "no doubt lead to huge disruption for people who rely on the centre", the West Midlands force said.

Police were called to the site at about 23:20 BST by a member of the public expressing concern at hearing an alarm and the sound of breaking glass.
