Man arrested on suspicion of Atherstone murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man died from serious head and torso injuries in Atherstone.

The 50-year-old man from Atherstone was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

A second man, aged 20, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has been released under investigation.

The victim is yet to be identified.

Paramedics found the 21-year-old victim in Barsby Close, Atherstone, on Sunday evening. He died in hospital the following morning at about 10:00 BST.

Det Ch Insp Steve Tonks said police believe the victim "was involved in several incidents" on Sunday evening, including an altercation outside the White Horse pub on Long Street at about 20:25 BST.

A post-mortem is due to take place.
