A group of about eight people chased away a suspected kidnapper when they went to help a woman who had jumped from a moving car, police said.

The West Midlands force wants to trace the group it has called Good Samaritans, to help its investigation.

Officers said the woman, 41, escaped from a car being driven in Coventry and suffered facial injuries for which she needed hospital treatment.

A man aged 43 was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and bailed.

'Against her will'

The men and women who helped during the incident in Gulson Road on Sunday 3 December spoke, police said, with European accents. They left the scene without leaving their details with the injured woman.

A police spokesman said: "This is believed to be a domestic incident and that the woman was taken away in the vehicle against her will shortly before she was found in the road by this group at 04:25.

"They went to her aid and comforted her before [she was] taken away to hospital for treatment."
