Woman dragged from car in assault in Cumbria

Police have appealed for information following reports a woman was dragged out of a car and assaulted on a street in Cumbria.

A number of people contacted the police in relation to the incident on the A595 at Lillyhall on Wednesday evening.

The woman was reported to be in a small silver car with three men. The one who assaulted her had a shaven head and was wearing tracksuit bottoms with no top.

When police arrived at the scene the woman and the car were gone.

The man who committed the assault is believed to have left the scene on foot, and was later seen near Furnace Row in Distington a short while later.

A police spokesman said: "Whilst we have not received any complaints from any women who have been assaulted in this area, we are treating the incident seriously and our inquiries are ongoing.

"We would urge the woman involved, or anybody with information, to contact Workington police."
