Lake District tourists and residents have been warned to make sure their cars are securely locked to ensure their summer is not ruined.
Cumbria Police said opportunist thieves have been targeting areas that are hotspots for visitors.
Motorists are urged to lock doors, windows and sunroofs and make sure valuables are placed out of sight.
Officers are carrying out additional patrols at busy car parks and issuing crime prevention advice.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "Sadly, as the numbers of visitors to the area rises, so does the potential to fall victim to car crime.
"Significant numbers of thefts from motor vehicles occur at rural beauty spots where tourists park and often leave valuable items like cameras, sat navs and mobile phones on show.
"We want our residents and visitors to enjoy themselves and remember their holiday for the right reasons, rather than having their time spoiled by a thief."
