Cumbria off licences praised in underage booze tests

  • Published

Off-licences in three west Cumbrian towns have been praised after refusing to sell alcohol to underage youngsters during an undercover operation.

A joint operation by trading standards staff and police targeted 23 premises in Maryport, Cleator Moor and Egremont.

All refused to serve teenagers in the week-long operation earlier this month.

A spokesman for Cumbria Trading Standards said the results indicated a drop in the availability of alcohol to young people.
