Carlisle petrol station staff threatened by armed men

Two men threatened a member of staff during an attempted robbery at a petrol station in Cumbria.

The pair, who were armed with metal bars, targeted the Esso petrol station on London Road in Carlisle on Sunday morning.

They demanded cash, but the assistant refused to hand any over, and they left empty-handed.

Anyone with any information about the incident, at about 0900 BST, is asked to contact Cumbria Police.

One of the men is described as aged about 30 and of slim build, the other was said to be in his 20s and of stocky build. Both were wearing dark clothing.
