Cumbria's first classical music festival held

Cumbria's first ever urban classical music festival has taken place in Workington.

The festival included a concert in the style of the Last Night of the Proms, a string quartet from Venezuela and a fireworks display.

It was organised by Workington Rotary club, Allerdale council and Whitehaven's Rosehill Theatre.

Cumbrian housing developer Fred Story donated £5,000 to support the festival, held on 11 and 12 September.

Claire Driver, Workington town centre manager, said: "It is fantastic that a local company has become our principal sponsor and can see the community benefit of what we are trying to do."
