Road sweeper denies death charge

The driver of a road sweeping vehicle has denied causing the death of a fellow worker in Cumbria.

Colin Hendry, from Gateshead, died after he was struck by the vehicle in roadworks on the A66 at Embleton, near Cockermouth in July 2009.

John Close, 51, of Crowgarth Close, Cleator Moor, denied causing death by driving without due care and attention at Carlisle Crown Court.

He was remanded on bail pending a trial in December.
