A Cumbrian postmaster was left "traumatised" after two robbers, one of them armed, targeted his post office, police said.
The pair went into the post office at Great Broughton just before 1900 BST on Monday. Cumbria Police said one had what was described as a handgun.
They demanded money but left empty-handed.
Police said it had been a traumatic incident for the postmaster who they said had been brave throughout.
They are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
