Police investigating a road crash which claimed the lives of two beauty therapists have appealed for more information.

Jessica Lakin and Grace Simpson, both 19 and from Carlisle, Cumbria, were killed when their green Peugeot 206 collided with a Royal Mail van.

It happened on the A595 at Newby Cross at about 0910 GMT on 2 December.

Police want to speak to the driver of a white saloon car which may have turned on to Peter Lane at the time.

They have appealed for the motorist to get in touch.

The 46-year-old male driver of the Royal Mail van, who is also from Carlisle, was not injured in the collision.

The friends were on their way to their workplace at Armathwaite Hall near Keswick. Miss Lakin, the driver, and Miss Simpson were pronounced dead at the scene.
