Cumbria man's new year death was 'tragic accident'

A man died when he apparently fell into a ditch in Cumbria after seeing in the new year at a pub, police have said.

The body of the man, who has not yet been identified, was found by the side of the A65 at Endmoor, near Kendal, in the early hours of Saturday.

Cumbria Police believe the man fell in the ditch while walking along the road and suffered serious head injuries.

A spokesman said it was being treated as a tragic accident and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

The spokesman said the man had a grey beard and was wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a yellow fluorescent jacket.
