Carlisle man arrested after pedestrians hurt in crash

A driver has been arrested after two women were badly injured when they were hit by a car in Cumbria.

The pedestrians, aged 68 and 72, were in Victoria Place, near Carlisle College on Friday evening when they were hit by a blue Ford Focus.

They both suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.

The 44-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries. The road was closed for four hours.
