Penrith Hospital opens new minor injuries unit

Hospital chiefs hope a new state-of-the art minor injuries unit in Cumbria will help reduce patient waiting times.

The unit at Penrith Community Hospital will be able to deal with patients with a variety of ailments including broken bones and sprains.

The unit, open from Tuesday 11 January, is based in the hospital's new Eden Assessment Service department.

It will also treat patients with minor head injuries, eye problems, as well as bites and stings.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "The new facilities will allow patients requiring the minor injuries service to book in with a receptionist and be triaged first before waiting for appropriate treatment.

"This will reduce waiting times for patients."
