Man dies after car hits tree in Cumbria

A man has died after his car left the road and hit a tree in Cumbria.

John McWhan, 43, of Greenhall Rd, Bridge of Dee, Castle Douglas, was travelling west along the A6071 between Gretna and Longtown in his blue Audi A4 on Wednesday morning.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended but Mr McWhan died as a result of his injuries.

The A6071 was closed for several hours while the scene was investigated. Police are appealing for witnesses.
