Passenger dies in hospital after Cumbria crash


An elderly woman has died more than two weeks after she was injured in a car crash in Cumbria.

Maureen Elwell, of Lakeland View, Nethertown, Egremont, was a front seat passenger in a Kia which left the A591 and hit a stone wall in St John's in the Vale, near Keswick, on 22 March.

The 76-year-old was taken to hospital in Newcastle, where she died on Thursday.

The driver, a 63-year-old woman from Egremont, suffered minor injuries.

Cumbria Police said inquiries into the cause of the crash were continuing.
