Arrests over cable theft at Barrow pumping station

Three people have been arrested over the theft of electrical cable which put a Cumbrian pumping station out of action.

The incident at the station in Frederick Street, Barrow, last Tuesday meant about 100 properties were at risk of flooding during heavy rain.

Owners United Utilities repaired the station the following day.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of burglary. A woman was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

A Cumbria Police spokeswoman said the men, aged 29 and 35 and the woman, aged 24, had been released on bail, pending further inquiries.
