Leg trap boy rescued from River Eden in Carlisle

A 13-year-old boy was rescued from the River Eden in Carlisle after his leg became trapped in undergrowth.

The youngster, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in the city after receiving treatment at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters used specialist equipment in the hour-long operation to free the boy, whose injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident happened on a stretch of the river at Kingmoor Road in Carlisle.
