A former councillor from Cumbria who has been charged with raping a boy is now facing nine new charges.

Tony Brunskill was charged by Cumbria Police in February with three counts of rape and one count of inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity.

The 65-year-old had represented Lazonby ward for Eden District Council as an independent councillor.

He has now been charged by Lancashire Police with nine counts of indecent assault on a child.

Cumbria Police said the offences were alleged to have taken place in Penrith between 2007 and 2010.

Mr Brunskill, of Great Salkeld, was remanded in custody at his last appearance and is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court for a case management hearing on Thursday.

Lancashire Police said the offences were alleged to have taken place between 1973 and 1979.

He is due to appear before Fleetwood magistrates on 6 June.
