Link theory over break-ins at Cumbria banks

  • Published

Police in Cumbria believe a break-in at a bank could be linked with an attempted break-in at another bank and an incident involving a cash machine.

On Thursday night entry was gained into HSBC in Grange-over-Sands. Cash drawers were damaged, but nothing was taken.

In the early hours of the same day, an attempt had been made to disrupt the alarm and CCTV system at Barclays bank in the town.

Also on Thursday, a cash machine in Bowness on Windermere, was targeted.

The offender, or offenders, tried to get into the safe behind the machine, but failed.

Cumbria Police said that due to their similarity the incidents were being "tentatively linked", and urged witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.
