Cumbria car park ticket machines raided

Thieves have stolen £10,000 in change in separate raids on car park ticket machines in south Cumbria.

Cumbria Police said the first raid happened in Ruskin Avenue, Coniston, on 5 June when two machines were targeted and £2,000 taken.

It is believe the same thieves also raided three car parks including Braithwaite Fold in Bowness on Sunday.

About £8,000 was taken from four machines which were full after the Great North Swim event.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "The area was extremely busy over the weekend and the offenders have obviously targeted the machines when they believed they were full.

"This was when the Great North Swim event had ended and the majority of people had left the area.

"The offenders have stolen thousands of pounds in change - so they are likely to have been there a while and would have needed transport from the rural locations."
