Cumbria Police cut down on alcohol crime in Penrith

Police in Penrith will be using body-cams as part of an operation to tackle alcohol related violence.

Extra police officers will be deployed during weekends over the summer months when the town centre gets busier.

It comes as police have dealt with a number of assaults recently, which they say are nearly always fuelled by alcohol.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: "The key to reducing violent crime is early intervention."
