Lake District cash machines targeted for second time

Three cash machines in the Lake District have been tampered with by thieves for a second time.

Cumbria Police said officers found three devices attached to dispensers at the Co-op in Bowness and two Barclays branches in Windermere on Monday.

The devices were seized but early on Wednesday more devices were found attached to the same machines.

The devices stop cash coming out, so users believe they are faulty and leave, allowing thieves to steal cash.

Sgt Ken Jewell of Cumbria Police said: "We have seized three devices this morning that were attached to machines overnight.

"We are investigating and are linking the overnight incidents with tampering that was reported to us earlier this week.

"We are urging people in the area to be extra cautious and vigilant in the lead up to Christmas."
