Carlisle College's city centre campus has officially reopened after a six-year modernisation programme.

The £10m development, in Victoria Place, offers students the chance to learn more than 300 different skills.

Connected to the college's existing buildings, it includes beauty and hair salons as well as a kitchen and training restaurant in the atrium.

Sir George Sweeney, knighted for his services to education, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony earlier.

Principal Moira Tattersall said: "It is a beautiful environment in which to both work and learn.

"We are confident it will provide an outstanding platform for Carlisle College's continued growth and future success."
