Police probe after sexual assault report in Barrow

Police are investigating after a 13-year-old girl claimed she was sexually assaulted in south Cumbria.

Officers were looking into the alleged attack off Bath Street, Barrow-in-Furness, on Saturday, but later said their inquiry had changed.

Police are now "investigating a different set of circumstances" to what was originally reported to them.

Det Ch Insp Bob Qazi said: "We are continuing to work with and support the person who reported the incident."

He added: "We do want to stress that any reports we receive of attacks are subject of a thorough and comprehensive investigation."
