Two held after man hit by car in Carlisle dies

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was killed in Cumbria.

The 67-year-old was crossing Newtown Road, in Carlisle, when he was hit by a car at about 21:30 BST on Saturday.

He was treated at the scene and taken to Cumberland Infirmary where he died from his injuries.

The arrested men are being questioned by officers. Police are appealing for witnesses.
