Attacked 'Good Samaritan' forced to drive to Workington

A man who assaulted a Good Samaritan is being sought by police in Cumbria.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, was driving between Stainburn and Brigham at about 19:30 BST on Monday when she was flagged down by a man in a lay-by.

When she stopped to offer assistance he got into the car and told her to drive him to Workington, the opposite direction to where she was going.

He is described as aged about 20, 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build. His accent was not local.

Cumbria Police said there appeared to be no motive for the assault - where the man pulled the woman's hair - other than ensuring she drove him to his destination.

A spokesman said: "He has somehow got to the lay-by in the first place and someone may have seen him or given him a lift before the incident.

"The victim is obviously shaken by the incident after she had stopped as a Good Samaritan."
