Flood-hit Cumbrian footbridge reopened

The last major structure destroyed in the 2009 floods which swept through Cumbria will be reopened this week.

More than 250 structures were badly damaged in the county by the flooding, including Camerton footbridge over the River Derwent at Great Clifton.

A 52m (57yd) bridge costing about £500,000 has been built and will be opened on Wednesday.

Pupils from Derwent Vale Primary School will be the first to cross the new bridge.

Cumbria County Council cabinet member for economy and highways Tony Markley described it as "the final piece in the jigsaw in terms of flood recovery".
