A Carlisle department store has been sold at auction for more than £1m.

Hoopers on Castle Street closed its doors for the final time in March because of "lack of profitability" with the loss of 23 jobs.

For a time there was hope it would be taken over by Edinburgh Woollen Mill but negotiations fell through.

Now, an unknown buyer has bought the store for £1,065,000 at auction. It is not yet known if it will remain as a department store.
