A595 Wigton crash: Car driver killed in collision

A man from Northumberland has died after a crash between a car and a lorry on the A595 in Cumbria.

The man, 40, from Haltwhistle, who has not yet been named, was driving a car which collided with a lorry at Mealsgate, Wigton, earlier.

Cumbria Police said the 52-year-old driver of the lorry, from Hartlepool, suffered from minor injuries.

A force spokesman said efforts were ongoing to identify the dead man. Local diversions were put in place.
