Kendal man jailed for repeated rape of schoolgirl
A Cumbrian man who "terrorised" and repeatedly raped a schoolgirl for more than seven years has been jailed.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how Jason Speakman subjected his victim to "repeated sexual abuse" starting when she was six-years-old.
The abuse continued until the girl told a school friend last year at the age of 13, the court heard.
Speakman, 32, of High Garth, Kendal, was jailed for 16 years and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The court heard that he "terrorised" his victim into keeping quiet by threatening to kill her if she told anyone.
He previously pleaded guilty to three counts of rape of a child under 13 and four counts of rape.
Judge Peter Hughes QC said it was "difficult to imagine" a worse case of a man sexually exploiting a vulnerable child.
