Carlisle memorial footbridge set for £60,000 makeover

A £60,000 makeover of a memorial footbridge in Cumbria is set to get under way.

The steel bridge crosses the River Eden, in Carlisle, and leads to the war memorial in Rickerby Park.

Cumbria County Council said the scheme is to coincide with the centenary of the start of the World War 1.

The work, starting on Tuesday and lasting for six weeks, will see it pressure cleaned and repairs made to steel railings.

The railings and lower sections of the structural steelwork will be repainted.

The footpath across the bridge will remain open at all times.
