A man has suffered chest injuries after falling "several metres" from the top of a Lake District waterfall.

The man was treated at the foot of Aira Force, near the northern shore of Ullswater, by members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team at 13:40 BST.

Team members and an air ambulance paramedic were lowered to the spot where the man was treated and then hoisted out of the stream.

The rescue operation took about three hours.

He was transferred into the care of the North West Air Ambulance.
