Cumbria to get energy efficient streetlights

More than 11,000 streetlights across Cumbria are to be replaced with energy efficient bulbs.

County council bosses have approved a £7.6m plan to replace old high-wattage lights with more efficient LED systems over the next three years.

The authority claims the move will result in savings of more than £430,000 a year.

A spokesman said the changes would also reduce the council's carbon emissions by almost 1,700 tonnes a year.
