A man has died after the car he was driving left the road and hit a tree in Cumbria.

The crash happened on the A6 Princes Way in Heversham at about 22:15 BST on Wednesday.

Jamie Paton, 20, from the Levens area was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The A6, which was closed in both directions for several hours, has now reopened.

A family statement said: "We are shattered by his sudden passing.

"Jamie will be remembered by us for his passion for music, amazing guitar playing and love for cars.

"He was very generous and kind-hearted, combined with a cheeky sense of humour."
