A speeding driver who caused the death of his friend in a crash in Cumbria has been jailed.

Robin Hewitt, 19, was a passenger in a BMW car which flipped over on the B5320 at Eamont Bridge, near Penrith, in March 2013.

Samuel McIlveen had denied causing death by dangerous driving, but was convicted during a trial at Carlisle Crown Court in September.

The 25-year-old, of Carleton Terrace, Penrith, was sentenced to three years.

He also received a three-year disqualification from driving upon his release from prison, and will be required to take an extended re-test.
