IPCC probes Cumbria Police over Kye Levi Beattie Kerr death inquiry

Police investigating the death of a baby in Carlisle are being probed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Five-week-old Kye Levi Beattie Kerr died at his home in Harraby in July 2011 and his parents were arrested in September 2013.

Police have not revealed the cause of death or disclosed what the parents were arrested on suspicion of.

The man, 33, and woman, 25, who have not been named, remain on bail.

An IPCC spokesman said: "The IPCC has begun an independent investigation into the role of Cumbria Constabulary in matters related to the death of a five-week-old baby.

"As there is an ongoing criminal investigation by Cumbria Constabulary into the baby's death we cannot provide further details about our investigation at this stage."

Cumbria Constabulary confirmed it was still investigating the baby's death but would not comment on the IPCC probe.
