A man found dead on a Lake District street has been named as police bid to piece together his final movements.

The body of Gordon Smith, 44, was discovered early on Wednesday on Lake Road in Windermere.

Detectives have been granted more time to question two local men aged 26 and 31, and a 48-year old woman arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of his murder.

A 15-year-old girl was also arrested, but has now been released on bail pending further investigations.

Mr Smith's family paid tribute to "our wonderful son, brother, uncle, and nephew, taken from his family and friends so cruelly and unfairly".

"He will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him," they added.

Cumbria Police said it was trying to piece together the last movements of Mr Smith, originally from Tyneside, who was working at the Grey Walls Hotel in the town.

A spokesman said: "Magistrates have now granted a warrant of further detention to give police another 36 hours in which to question three of the suspects arrested on Wednesday."
